Gyeonggi-do has launched the “visiting COVID-19 vaccine bus” service. The bus will visit places where many foreigners work to administer vaccinations.

The vaccine bus first rolled out on October 6th with a visit to Korea Industrial Complex Corporation’s Gyeonggi headquarters located in Danwon-gu, Ansan.

The vaccine bus will administer 100 doses of vaccines per day, and will first visit workplaces where a list of foreign workers is available. Unregistered foreigners will also be able to get vaccinated on-site by providing temporary registration numbers, as long as their identities can be verified with a certificate of employment issued by the employer. Family members of foreign workers, foreign students, and Koreans who are not yet vaccinated will also be able to get vaccinated if they choose to do so.

Those aged 30 and over will be given Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccines, and those between the ages of 18 and 29 will be given mRNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) depending on the availability for each local government and the conditions of the vaccinated.

Workers from small workplaces who have received COVID-19 vaccinations will automatically become subject for the “Gyeonggi-do Free Visiting Medical Treatment” service provided for Gyeonggi-do residents in healthcare-vulnerable areas to receive a health screening and case management.

Two teams of the “Vaccination Team (Gyeonggi-do)” and the “Supporting Team (Si and Gun government)” will come together and organize two vaccination and health screening buses that will go on-site to factories and farms where mostly foreigners work in, and villages where many foreigners live in. The Vaccination Team will be responsible for preliminary screenings, administering actual vaccinations, and observing adverse reactions, whereas the Supporting Team that consists of the Si and Gun government employees will be responsible for vaccine management, vaccination registration, schedule management, language interpretations, and volunteers.

The vaccine bus will be first rolled out in the Ansan area with the most number of foreign workers as a pilot. After surveying the demand by the Si and Gun, the buses will be rolled out until the end of October.
