During the visit of the Gyeonggi Province delegation to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in August, successful collaborative efforts were made to promote international exchanges among medical professionals, including holding an international medical conference and hosting an Alumni gathering for invited Mongolian medical trainees.

First, the ‘2024 1st Korea-Mongolia International Medical Conference’ was successfully held on August 27, 2024, in collaboration with the Mongolian Health Development Center (HDC). This conference featured cross-presentations between three medical professionals from South Korea, including neurosurgeons, and four medical professionals from facilities such as the Mongolian National First Hospital and the Trauma Center, under the theme ‘New Neurosurgery Technology Exchange between Gyeonggi Province and Mongolia.’ Approximately 50 participants, including medical professionals from both countries, attended the event, which took place in the conference hall on the first floor of the Mongolian HDC. In particular, medical professionals who faced difficulties attending in person due to distance were able to participate online via Zoom, demonstrating the high level of local interest in the event.

In addition, on August 28, a ‘Medical Gyeonggi Alumni Association and Networking Night’ was held at the Novotel in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The event saw the participation of officials from the Gyeonggi Province medical delegation, which included representatives from Korea University Ansan Hospital, Soonchunhyang University Hospital Bucheon, Bundang Jesaeng General Hospital, National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital, Shihwa Medical Center, and Wiltse Memorial Hospital. A total of about 30 attendees, including Mongolian alumni who had studied in Gyeonggi Province from 2012 to 2023 and local medical professionals, joined the event.

The alumni greeted the officials from Gyeonggi Province medical institutions with warm smiles as they reunited after a long time, exchanging updates and catching up on each other’s lives.

Mr. Jigjidsuren Chinburen, a member of the Mongolian Parliament, also attended the event as a distinguished guest. A former physician at the Ulaanbaatar National Cancer Center, Mr. Chinburen has shown a keen interest in international collaboration in the medical field and expressed high regard for South Korea’s advanced medical standards and professional training programs for medical personnel.

At the event, there was an opening speech from the Gyeonggi Province representatives, a congratulatory message from Dr. Narantuya, the Director of the Mongolian HDC, which serves as a cooperating institution for Mongolian medical trainee programs. Participants also watched a promotional video about Gyeonggi Province medical training and shared testimonials from alumni representing various institutions.

Dr. Temujin, who is affiliated with the Mongolian National Second Hospital and was appointed as an honorary doctor at Wiltse Memorial Hospital this year, attended the event to share his experiences as a trainee. Since being selected as a trainee invited by Gyeonggi Province in 2012, Dr. Temujin has developed a close relationship with Gyeonggi Province under the guidance of Dr. Park Choon Keun at Wiltse Memorial Hospital. He has grown based on the medical skills he learned in Korea and is now committed to nurturing future medical professionals in Mongolia.

Gyeonggi Province has been operating an invitation program for medical professionals since 2011, successfully graduating a total of 864 trainees, 130 of whom are from Mongolia. Gyeonggi Province is dedicated to ensuring that this training program is not a one-time event. Instead, they have established a follow-up management program for graduates to engage in various activities as medical ambassadors for Gyeonggi Province. This includes networking activities like alumni nights, online training for continuing education, and hosting online conferences.
